Stretches for Your Back

Back pain is a very frustrating and life-altering thing to deal with. In addition to seeing our team at Maple Grove Family Chiropractic regularly, the following back stretches can help minimize that pain while keeping your back in its best shape.

Knee-to-Chest

  • Lie down on your back, bend your knees, and place your feet on the floor.
  • Pull your left knee to your chest, holding it behind your thighs.
  • Be sure your hips stay on the floor.
  • Hold for at least 30 seconds as you breathe deeply.
  • Repeat with the right side.

Seated Spinal Twist

    • Sit on the floor and put your legs in front of you. 

    • Pull your right knee up and put the right foot on the outside of your left leg. 

    • Put your left arm on the outer side of your right leg, placing your right hand on the floor. 

    • Turn to the right slowly and hold for about one minute. 

    • Repeat the movement on the other side. 

Child’s Pose

  • Start with your knees on the floor, sinking your bottom onto your heels. If necessary, you can widen your knees.
  • Place your hands on the floor in front of you.
  • Walk your hands out in front as you rest your stomach on your thighs.
  • If possible, let your forehead rest on the floor. You can use a pillow or rolled-up towel if necessary.
  • Rest in this position for up to one minute as you slowly breathe in and out.

Cat-Cow

  • From child’s pose, go on all fours.
  • Inhale as you move your belly down toward the floor and look up.
  • Exhale as you move your chin to your chest and arch your spine upward.
  • Move through these movements for one to two minutes.
