Shoulder Pain FAQs

Are you experiencing shoulder pain? If so, you are likely seeking answers – and relief. It’s difficult to carry out many tasks when shoulder pain is present, so getting rid of that pain likely doesn’t stray far from your mind. At Maple Grove Family Chiropractic, we understand how much shoulder pain can affect your life. Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions – including how to find relief.

.

Why does my shoulder hurt?

The source of shoulder pain can vary greatly among those suffering from it, but there are some common denominators. Some of the most common are sprains and strains, overuse injuries, frozen shoulder, dislocation, tendonitis, rotator cuff injuries, and pinched nerves.

What is an overuse injury?

Throughout the day, your movements can cause tiny tears in the shoulder tissues. Normally, the body can repair these tears, so you never really notice. However, when you carry out the same movements over and over again, the body can’t repair the tissues fast enough, which causes constant inflammation. This is known as overuse.

Does shoulder pain mean there’s something wrong with my shoulder?

Just because your shoulder hurts doesn’t mean that the problem lies in your shoulder. Many times, shoulder pain can come from an issue in the back or neck, such as a pinched nerve. Your chiropractor can help determine where the pain is coming from.

What should I do at home to ease shoulder pain?

Rest is one of the best things you can do – especially if the pain is due to overuse. Hot and cold therapy can also help relieve the pain. Gentle stretches might help as well, but you must move slowly and stop if the pain seems to worsen with the movement. If rest, hot, and cold therapy do not ease your pain within a few days, it’s essential to make an appointment with our team as soon as possible.

How can a chiropractor help my shoulder pain?

Our team specializes in various methods of treatment for pain in the shoulder. Before developing a treatment plan, we’ll determine the root cause of your pain. We’ll then create a personalized plan, combining both soft and hard tissue therapy. This can include adjustments, therapeutic massage, acupuncture, electrical stimulation, and more.

  • "I visited Dr. Laura after having tension headaches for several months. After the first adjustment, I had instant relief! I have since visited her practice for acupuncture and had the best massage I've ever experienced from Sarah. Dr. Laura is exceptionally knowledgeable in her field, and I highly recommend her!"

  • "Dr. Laura Zaker has helped me realize that the spine is movable. I'm in my early sixties and was skeptical that my persistent back pain could be addressed. After years of sharp pain, within two months, I am amazed that I no longer have the pain. The muscles in my back and neck are no longer feeling strained. I am writing this since I was fortunate to have received this unexpected physical improvement; I am a fan of Dr. Laura Zaker."
